Microchip-Chip Baby Method<\/span><\/span><\/h2><\/header>

The method known as Chip Baby Treatment is a microfluidic system used for sperm selection in IVF and vaccination treatments (IVF, ICSI, IUI). Microfluidic sperm sorting chips were invented and developed by Prof. Utkan Demirci at Harvard University. In vitro fertilization and vaccination treatments with the chip baby method provide high success in pregnancy rates resulting in healthy births.<\/p>\n

What are the methods used in assisted reproductive treatments?<\/div>
<\/p>\n

In vitro fertilization (IVF, in vitro fertilization) treatment is fertilization in an external environment. In other words, it is aimed to fertilize egg and sperm cells by bringing them together in a laboratory environment.<\/p>\n

Microinjection (ICSI, intra cytoplasmic sperm injection) treatment is also called microinjection. In this treatment, with the help of a special microscope and instruments called micro manipulators, a sperm cell taken into a very thin needle is injected into the matured egg and fertilization is tried to be achieved.<\/p>\n

Inoculation (IUI, intra uterine insemination) is the so-called “vaccination” treatment. During the ovulation period of the expectant mother, the sperm sample taken from the expectant father is cleaned in a laboratory environment and reintroduced into the uterus.<\/p>\n

How does the chip baby method affect the success of IVF treatment?<\/div>
<\/p>\n

Microfluidic chip technology, or chip baby method, is a method inspired by a process in natural pregnancy. In the womb, the best sperm instinctively compete with each other on the micro-channels to reach the egg and the best quality sperm fertilize the egg. In microfluidic chips, the same environment for sperm is created in the laboratory using microfluidic biophysics and dynamics.<\/p>\n

Sperm selection is of great importance in treatments. The ability of the sperm cell to fertilize the egg is among the most important conditions required for pregnancy to occur.<\/p>\n

How are microfluidic chips used?<\/div>
<\/p>\n

Microfluidic chips are very simple to use. The likeified semen sample is used without pre-treatment. In the treatments, the sperm sample taken from the father-to-be is passed through a microfluidic chip and the sperms with the best morphology (structure), movement (forward movement) and most importantly DNA (genetics) are selected. These sperm are the least exposed to free oxygen radicals. When the treatment is continued with these selected sperms (when the egg is fertilized), the possibility of obtaining healthier and better quality embryos increases significantly compared to the classical sperm selection techniques in treatments.<\/p>\n

Many clinical studies have scientifically shown that treatments using microchips improve embryo quality.<\/p>\n

A good quality embryo increases the likelihood of pregnancy by its ability to hold in the uterus and continue its development.<\/p>\n

In the treatments, the sperm sample taken from the father-to-be is passed through a microfluidic chip and the sperms with the best morphology, movement and most importantly DNA are selected.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Clinical studies have shown that Swim-Up and Density gradient (separation by weight in high-speed centrifugation) techniques, which are classical sperm selection techniques in treatment protocols, cause DNA fragmentation in sperm. In addition, these old methods are insufficient in sperm samples with high DNA fragmentation.<\/p>\n

Microfluidic chips are a superior biotechnological product and easier to use than other sperm selection methods.<\/p>\n
