RETROGRADE INTRARENAL SURGERY IS A DEFINITION USED IN UROLOGY FOR ENDOSCOPIC PROCEDURES REQUIRING TECHNOLOGY THAT IS GENERALLY PERFORMED BY ENTERING THROUGH THE URINARY TRACT WITHOUT ANY INCISION IN THE BODY. THIS METHOD IS USED IN THE TREATMENT OF KIDNEY STONES AND IN THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF SOME TUMORS INSIDE THE KIDNEY. IT CAN BE CHARACTERIZED AS A NEWER TECHNOLOGY IN THE TREATMENT OF KIDNEY STONES AFTER METHODS SUCH AS ESWL (STONE CRUSHING WITH SHOCK WAVES), PERCUTANEOUS NEPHROLITHOTOMY (KIDNEY STONE CRUSHING AND REMOVAL SURGERY WITH A 1 CM TUBE FROM THE KIDNEY AREA).
IT IS THE PROCESS OF BREAKING THE STONE WITH HOLMIUM YAG LASER OR TULIUM LASER UNDER GENERAL ANESTHESIA WITH FLEXIBLE URETHROSCOPY (BENDABLE ENDOSCOPY INSTRUMENT). THE DURATION OF THE PROCEDURE IS APPROXIMATELY 1 TO 2 HOURS, DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF THE STONE, ITS LOCATION IN THE KIDNEY AND THE SUITABILITY OF THE URINARY CANAL, WHICH WE CALL THE URETER. FLEXIBL URETEROSCOPIC LASER PROCEDURE IS ESPECIALLY RECOMMENDED FOR 1-2 CENTIMETER STONES IN THE KIDNEY THAT DO NOT BENEFIT FROM ESWL TREATMENT. HOSPITALIZATION PERIOD IS 1 DAY.
