Ileal Augmentation

After the bladder is freed from the surrounding tissues, it is cut open from front to back. A 15-20 cm piece taken from the ileum (small intestine) is cut and sewn on itself, turned into a hood, and then sutured to the opened bladder. If it is decided to be performed before surgery and if it is surgically appropriate, a catheterizable mouth is created by mouthing one end to the bladder and one end to the skin with a technique that will not leak urine back. At the end of the operation, catheters are inserted through the patient’s external urinary tract and the appendix, which is anchored to the skin, and a drain catheter is inserted to drain the body fluids accumulated in the surgical site. The surgery takes an estimated 4 hours.
