Breast cancer is usually an irregularly circumscribed and hard mass (tumor) that develops in the breast. The diagnosis is usually made by examinations performed after a palpable swelling is detected during palpation. Those that are not large enough may not be detected manually, but can be diagnosed during USG/Mammography controls.

If breast cancers are not detected early, they can spread (metastasize) to organs such as bone, brain, liver and lung.

Early diagnosis is very important in the treatment of the disease, so those with a family history of breast cancer should definitely be checked with a mammogram at the age of 30-35 and repeated annually in the following years. In those without a family history, mammography is recommended at the age of 35-40 and follow-up afterwards.

Surgery is the main treatment for breast cancer. In addition to surgical treatment, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormone therapy are also used in necessary patients.

There are different surgical techniques in the surgical treatment of breast cancer. However, in recent years, breast-conserving surgeries, in which the breast is not removed but only the breast is removed with appropriate clean surgical margins and radiotherapy is used afterwards, have gained popularity.
